Marino is currently a Full Professor of Physiology at University of Roma Tre, Department of Science. The overall goal of her research is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which hormone and growth factors signals and regulate cell proliferation. The research interests have been focused, during the last 15 years, on post-receptorial modifications and rapid molecular events which follows estrogen stimulation of several target cells including neurons, hepatocytes, and breast cancer cell lines. The work of her group allows defining new action mechanisms of estrogen hormones which synergize with nuclear mechanism to give the pleiotropicity typical of these hormones. More recently, the action mechanisms of natural and synthetic compounds present in the food as component or contaminant has been evaluated discovering their interference on estrogen and androgen signals and a diverse gender susceptibility to endocrine disruptors.
