Dr. Sounni is a Senior Researcher of the F.R.S.-FNRS and the Preclinical Science Department and GIGA cancer, University of Liege, Belgium. He received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences (University of Liege), in the laboratory of Agnes Noel and Jean-Michel Foidart in 2004. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship 2005-2007 in Cancer Biology at the University of California, San Francisco in Lisa Coussens laboratory, where he was investigating the role of extracellular matrix and MMPs in vessel permeability and drug delivery in solid tumors. In 2005, Dr. Sounni has received the prestigious international Henny C. Dirven prize from the University of Leiden, The Netherlands, for his work on the role of MMPs in breast cancer progression. In 2008, he joined the Laboratory of Professor Alex Strongin at Burnham Institute for Medical Research, La Jolla, CA, where he investigated the role of cell surface proteases in cancer cell migration. Since he joined the University of Liege, in 2009, Dr. Sounni focuses his research on the tumor microenvironment biology vascular biology metabolism and targeted therapy.
