Joel W. Ochieng is a Research Fellow at the University of Nairobi. He obtained his PhD in Evolutionary Genetics under renown world leader in Plant genetics, Prof Robert J Henry (Queensland Professor of Innovation in Agriculture). As Research Fellow and TAGET Programme leader, Dr Ochieng is interested in studies of organismal evolution, understanding the processes that initiate and maintain variations in nature, with greater focus on variations of adaptive significance. Over the last 10 years, he has worked on both animal and plant genetics, with impressive publications in conservation genetics, phylogenetics and systematics, genome evolution and genetic improvement using modern biotechnology.
