Dingchang Zheng's first degree was gained from Zhejiang University, China, and then his PhD from Newcastle University. He is a senior member of the Cardiovascular Physics & Engineering Research Group based at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle University and leads the group's work in arterial compliance and blood pressure measurements. Research includes new methods of physiological measurements and understanding the electrical and mechanical principles of the heart and their relationship to the peripheral circulation. Dingchang Zheng is the winner of the Martin Black Annual Prize for the best article published in ‘Physiological Measurement' in 2011, and also the winner of Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) JA Lodge Award 2009 for ‘Recognising and Promoting Outstanding Work in the Field of Research and Development in Medical Engineering'.
