José M. Mancheño (Madrid, 1967) got his B. Sc. degree in Biological Sciences at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1990) and his Ph.D. degree (1995) at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Chemistry of the same university, where he carried out biophysical studies on protein-membrane interactions. As associate professor (1995-2003) he investigated molecular mechanisms of membrane pore-formation by protein toxins. In 2000 he moved to the Institute “Rocasolano” of Physical Chemistry for a postdoctoral training in protein crystallography (2000-2003) and focused his interest on the structural characterization of membrane-interacting proteins. He definitively moved to the Spanish National Research Council where he got a permanent position as staff scientist (2005) and established his own research group and develop several lines of investigation.
