Eduardo Pinho Melo received the Ph.D. in Biotechnology in 1995. He has worked as Associate Professor at Universidade of Algarve, Portugal since 2003 where he has been the Head of the Protein Biochemistry and Biophysics Lab, in the Center for Molecular and Structural Biomedicine, Universidade do Algarve. He has worked as Director of the Master Program on Biological Engineering, University of Algarve, since 2011. He has been Visiting Professor at Institute of Metabolic Sciences (David Ron lab), University of Cambridge, UK, in 2012 and 2013 (June-July). In 2010, he worked as Visiting Professor at the School of Medicine, New York University, USA, Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine (David Ron lab) and in 2003 as Visiting Professor at Institute of Neuropathology (Adriano Aguzzi lab), University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland. In 2000 from October to November, he served as Visiting Professor at Aalborg University, Denmark. His areas of expertise include protein folding and stability, protein stabilization by osmolytes, prion diseases and protein fibrillation, and protein oxidative folding in the endoplasmic reticulum.
