Roberto Alberto De Blasi is Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in the Department of Surgical and Medical Science and Translational Medicine of the University of Rome “Sapienza”, Faculty of Medicine and Psychology. He received his full degree in Medicine at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy (1982) and attained the postgraduate degree in Anesthesiology Analgesia Hyperbaric Therapy and Intensive Care in the same University (1985). De Blasi teaches at the University of Rome in courses of faculty of medicine nursing school and postgraduate schools. He is serving as reviewer of 8 international journals. Since 2006 he has been chief of the general Intensive Care Unit of S. Andrea University Hospital. He is a leading expert in the oxygenation transport to tissues and metabolism. Since 1991 he has been working in the field of non invasive investigation of tissue oxygenation and perfusion with near infrared spectroscopy technology. He collaborated with many institutions of research in Europe and US for the development of the optical technologies and their application on humans in clinical research. He developed innovative measurements reflecting microcirculatory function in critically ill patients. He is a member of the Europen Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Italian Society of Anesthesia Analgesia and Intensive care.
