Pain as the Sole Presenting Symptom of Infected Sacral Nerve Stimulation Implantable Pulse Generator

Twopatientspresentedfromoutsidehospitalswithcomplaintsofpainatthesiteofimplantablepulsegenerator(IPG). Neither patient had constitutional or local signs and symptoms of infection; however, during operations performed for revision and/or troubleshooting of the device, infection was encountered and all components were removed. Both individuals recovered wellfromtheoperation,andonepatientunderwentsubsequentplacementofanewInterStimdevicewithgoodresults.Possibility ofinfectionshouldbeconsideredinpatientswithcomplaintofpainassociatedwithIPGsite
